The sushi is pretty good, but I didn't find anything to be particularly innovative. The atmosphere is stuffy and the rolls overpriced, much of it was "cooked" sushi.

i've just moved here from the west coast, and the sushi at dragonfly is something you could find at any podunk restaurant. the sushi is hit or miss, not anything special. and what's with that smell? if you like trendy places that think they are better than they actually are, this is your place.

Best sushi in Gainesville, but you will pay a slightly higher price for it. However there is always a long wait for a table and service can be slow. The food is still good though.

New Place is great! Atmosphere is wonderful. Servers are very polite and managers are very friendly! Best sushi in town... very fresh!

Okay, I've moved down to a whole new area, and I'm DYING for some good sushi. But, I don't really know where to trust anymore, so off I go in the great hunt for decent eats. Every single one of my co-workers highly recommended this place; for most, they say it's their favorite restaurant in town. So, I wanted to see if it could live up to the hype. ATOMOSPHERE: 4/5. In my experience, there are two general atmospheres that you run into for sushi joints; you've got the more "traditional" settings, with the paper lanterns, the Japanese art decorating the walls, and all that stuff. Then you've got the trendy type of place, neon lights and loud music, and all that stuff. This place leans more towards the latter (music wasn't all that loud, but it was definately on the trendy side). Unfortunately, this also makes me worry a bit, since the "trendier" ones in my experience tend not to focus too much on the food quality. Thankfully, this one didn't fit the pattern. It's a bit crowded up at the sushi bar, but that's to be expected; the place was packed. And it wasn't even a weekend. SERVICE: 5/5. Very personal, and very polite servers. The waiter I've had was pretty cool, and very understanding about my lack of knowledge in etiquitte, it being my first time actually sitting at the sushi bar rather than at a table and all (hey, we all gotta start somewhere, eh?). FOOD QUALITY: 5/5. The sushi creations were very original (they made a little dragon-like thing out of sushi, complete with little eyes and a "carapace" of slivers of avocado along a roll. It was cute. Too bad that's not the one I ordered, but I know better next time. My first time at any sushi place, I typically order the "sushi regular" to get a feel of how the quality is. The meat was firm and fresh, and the rice was moist. Presentation was very nice. It's not the absolute best place I've been to, but I'd be surprised if anyone can top my best experience. FOOD QUANTITY: 3/5. It was okay. The fried dumplings (another order I typically use to gauge a sushi joint's quality) were okay, but they only give you four of 'em. Usually, most sushi places I've been to hook you up with a miso soup to kind of start things off. Not here. Oh well, not a huge deal. PRICE: 4/5. Well, it's not cheap, but hey, you get what you pay for. It's very reasonably priced, all things considered. OVERALL; I'd give it a 4.5 out of 5. Definately worth going back to to try a more adventurous selection.
