Sushi-Matsuri Japanese Restaurant 4

I love this place. I think a sushi restaurant should be small, cozy and focused on the food. Matsuri does just that unlike another restaurant in the city...
Don't let the strip mall location fool you, its the best sushi in gainesville. Those that tell you "the bug" is the best sushi in Gainesville are probably judging the atmosphere, not the freshness of the fish.

Sushi-Matsuri Japanese Restaurant 5

I used this site to look for a better sushi restaraunt, and since there is no review for the place I just tried, I figure I'll give them the justice they diserve.
I'm talking about sushi-Matsuri!!! At first this place had me worried as it was crammed into a small area of a strip plaza. Atmosphere 5/5 on the traditional side, but very cozy, and not to loud. Service 4/5 all the people were very pleasant, maybe my waitress was caught on a bad day or was very busy, but did try hard. Food quality 5/5 the sushi slices were so fresh that I saw pinks on the fish flesh I've never seen at other restaraunts. Food quantity 5/5----WOW!!! the Ngiri pieces (ball of rice with raw fish on top) were huge! The pieces of fish were 3-4 times the size of any I've had at all the sushi places I've ever tried. I am still in awe over it! Price 5/5 I ordered about 15 Ngiri pieces that cost anywhere from $.50 to $1.00 less than other places, 3 rolls, beef tatake appetizer, and two drinks (one was wine). Total bill $60.00, roughly 10-15 bucks less than anywhere else, not to mention the fish pieces were soooo big that I was very stuffed and had plenty leftovers from a 2 person eat-out. All in all I highly recommend this place. I've tried others on here (refusing to try dragonfly as I'm not into the "hip" & "now" type places) , and this place puts others to shame just in the food quality/ quantity alone area. There was only drawbacks-- When we first got there we were put into a two-person table which they have about six of these. These tables were way too small to enjoy your food. luckily the booth next to us cleared and we were allowed to use it after asking. Also the seating is more traditional (i.e.) wooden benches with a thin throwdown cushion with a backrest that seems too far from the table. I can't wait to go back!!! Enjoy!
