They have been disappointing. Competitive, but disappointing. Yankee fans are unique among baseball fans in that the Bombers are EXPECTED to WIN the World Series. Period. Every year. And, any time they don't, they suck and it was a "bad year. " The current crop of pinstripers is getting a bit long in the tooth. They are due for a makeover this off season, replacing Bernie Williams in CF, a few middle relievers and a new crop of healthy (and maybe young) starting pitchers. Tino Martinez and Ruben Sierra are probably playing their last games in pinstripes and heaven knows who the next pitching coach might be. There's talk that Brian Cashman is on his way out also. I'm not confident Joe Torre will return next year, the job is probably his if he wants it. But, I suspect that Lou Piniella, Willie Randolph and Lee Mazzilli would apply for the opening, should Joe choose to step down. I'll always reminisce with a chuckle the know-it-all New York sportswriters who called Torre "Clueless Joe" when he first took over the helm in the Bronx. If for one day I could be so clueless . . .

All the money, nothing to show for it. They just haven't been the same since the Arizona Diamondbacks beat them.
