Brilliant service. I've discovered more artists in 3 weeks of this service then 3 months of Rhapsody.

Fun site and it can kick up some quirky "matches" for what you're looking for. Very entertaining. UPDATE: According to the site, their licensing agreements no longer allow users from outside the U.S. Too bad, because this is a great site. Another time that it sucks to be a Canuck.

it has really good stations i found most of the music that i like right now from this site and it's all free. the thing that i don't like about it is that i think they could do a better job at chossing the band that go onto some of the stations.

A friend (Marius) introduced me to Pandora. It does a good job of finding music I like and I've only had to give a thumbs down to a small number of songs compared to the ones I've given a thumbs up.

I'm impressed with this site, it usually does a pretty good job of finding something interesting. You can create your own stations simply by clicking below the artist or group you've looked up. Like magellan said, it'll occasionally come up with an odd match: I have no idea why typing in say Blue Cheer or The Afghan Whigs would lead to The Thompson Twins or Lil' Kim, but aside from that it's excellent. Sometimes they won't have something due to licensing restrictions, but they do have a huge selection. I even finally heard an obscure song ( that turned out to be truly excellent) called "I Am the Noise In Your Head" by a group called Griffin that I've read about and had been trying to track down for about a decade. Worth investigating. It's not perfect, but it's a lot of fun.

Nice idea, but unfortunately this website is not available outside the USA. I'm not sure why, but personally I blame Metallica.

If you want to listen to a wide variety of music, get introduced to stuff you've never heard, and read about musicians and their music, you will not find a better place.

**OK, (!Link Url="http://www.pandora.com" Name="Pandora"!) is now free (ad supported). I'm listening to it right now, I recommend you try it... Type in any band you like, and Pandora creates a radio station based on music similar to the band you like. While the service will miss spectacularly every once in a while - Duran Duran matched with Grandaddy - overall it's a neat, free way to discover new music. ** Original Comment: I'm very impressed so far. I typed in one of my favorite bands, Grandaddy, and the service has been playing me some very cool tracks from pretty obscure bands like Athlete and the Field Mice. You get your first ten hours for free, and I think a year long subscription costs $36.
