steak fries are better than some of the fries I've eaten; but tough steak is one of the worst experiences you might have with a knife if having some problems with cutting frustrates you.

They refused to seat me. Since they are franchises, they can get away with this stuff. I am sure the food would be awful. I am glad that the company that owns them is having trouble. They deserve it.

Not many of these across the fruited plains, but I've had the pleasure of eating here twice and have positive memories of the simple menu yet decent food.

Most horrible food I have had . The steak was so tough we couldn't cut it with our steak knife!!!! There were 4 in our group 3 had steak & 1 had lobster. The lobster was like old rubber. Horrible!!!!! Not worth your time or money at this restaurant! I give it a score of "F."
This is in Ft. Worth Tx. off of Camp Bowie

We ate at the Steak and Ale on the South side of Indianapolis in October 2006. I must say, the atmosphere is quite dated as is the whole feeling about the restaurant. However, the food was excellent, the service was superb, salad bar great. I really didn't mind the atmosphere. In fact, it kind of reminded me of the type of place we went when I was a kid in the 80'S. If you want a great steak, and don't want to pay Morton's or Ruth's Chris Prices, try it out. Maybe not quite as good, but almost.

A dull boring place. I felt like I was in a dungeon. No music, no colorful things to look at on the wall. Everyone there was just looking around and at each other instead of talking and laughing. The salad bar was really good, the service was not bad and the food was just a little better than average. Would have rated it higher if the menu selection was up to 21st century standards.

I really like this old school styled steakhouse, but I haven't seen them around much anymore.

I refrain from giving it a 5, because I haven't been in 5 years, and thus there's a chance it's gone downhill just like every other chain restaurant in America. The 4 stars applies to all the times I ate there in the 90s. Service was good, dining area was very cozy and romantic, a great place to dine with a date.

We had reservations here for a small group and they refused to let us sit down 15 minutes before our scheduled time EVEN THOUGH the place was half empty. Our party included two elderly women (in their 70s & 80s) who could not stand for long periods of time. It was simply rude. On top of that, the food was badly prepared and we were quite unhappy.

Those 2 points are entirely for atmsophere. I think the restaurant is really over-rated, as I have had significantly better food in diners. I have never understood why so many people are willing to pay that much money to eat such horrible food. On a positive note, though, it's a very pleasant dining experience, except for the food.
