 | Sundiszno (30) 09/24/2005 | I'm not sure if Jamie is referring to conch meat (I believe that a conch is classified as a bivalve mollusk, for whatgever that's worth - sort of a slug with a shell, or an overgrown snail). The Italians call them scungilli, so if you ever see "Scungilli salad" advertised in an Italian restaurant, that's what you're getting. I tried some once - not as bad as I thought it's be, but on general principle, no thanks. The time I tried it we had gone to a restaurant with a cousin of mine who was "wired" into the eatery, and it seemed that everything he suggested was excellent. He told us that the scungilli salad was great (I knew what scungilli was, but my wife didn't, so she said OK). She loved it. The next time we went up to Connecticut, some months later, we went to the restaurant with my cousin again, and my wife insisted on having the scungilli salad which she had looked forward to. She was about halfway through it when my cousi casually asked if she knew what she was eating. When my wife found out, she made a beeline for the ladies' room, tossed her cookies, and doesn't want to hear about scungilli any more. Shows you how your mind can play games with you - she loved it until she found out what it was.
