Too bad FireFly didn't last but at least we have the DVD collection. I'm told that there was a season 2 in England yet all we have is the comic books to link season 1 to the movie.

What a shame that we don't have more of the "Firefly" TV series. The movie "Serenity" is a consolation prize.

While I liked the TV show FIREFLY better than the SERENITY spin-off movie, the movie was, never the less, excellent as it wrapped up the questions that were left unanswered in the TV series. This movie stands alone and is enjoyable for viewers who have never seen the TV show. In fact I bought the SERENITY DVD to kill time while stuck in an airport for 12 hours waiting for a flight and had never heard of the FIREFLY TV series until after watching the movie. I enjoyed the movie enough to look into the franchise and ultimately purchased the FIREFLY DVDs. There is a new "special edition" DVD that is being released in August 2007 that has bonus features and is available for pre-order on Amazon. If you are a fan of Star Trek, especially the spin off series Voyager, you will love the movie SERENITY.

A brilliant follow up to the short lived tv series "Firefly". Action sequences, great effects, the witty dialog of the series, and Joss Whedon's directing made this one of the best sci fi films ever created. If it had had a big name star in it it would have been a summer blockbuster. Definitely worth picking up the dvd. Enjoy!

Excellent movie, lots of fun, exciting, and some great special effects. I really like the main characters, they seem very comfortable together as a unit, which makes the movie even more fun. I really liked the humor also. Nathan Fillion is a good actor, very believable as the troubled Captain of the ship, and of course, Jayne is just too funny. HBO as of this time (June/July 2007) has been rotating Serenity in it's play list a lot lately, so those who have never seen it, keep watching HBO or do a search for the movie title to see when it will be on again. I loved the beginning scenes onboard the ship, I believe someone commented already it was done in one take, and it is a really interesting extended scene, would love to hear how many "takes" they had to do to get it as good as it was! You don't have to be a fan of the TV series to watch and enjoy this movie, it does stand on it's own very well as just a good action/adventure/sci-fi.

A Very much needed boost to the franchise that was Firefly. This movie had all the necessary components to make it mildly exciting, and somewhat entertaining. The actors you could say really fit the mediocre lives that they were portraying, but was well done nonetheless.

The movie was a good time waster, in a good way. Sometimes you need to listen to pre-colonial jibber-jabber to get a new perspective on things.

Really like this movie - reminded me of how much I missed Firefly (have to agree with the frustration regarding low int levels amongst TV execs). If you like science fiction and Westerns, you will like this movie too.

It's really a shame the series couldn't survive the lowest common denominator of ratings. Anything written by someone with a 3 figure IQ will probably die an early death on today's television, unless it earns some notoriety like the religious one everybody is freaking out about.

all the right elements are in the mix: the pace is fast without being confusing, the humor dry and witty, the action exciting and suspenceful. if anything is missing its the over-blown (and obvious) computer graphics and clichés of a doomed futuristic world that have become the standard for sci-fi (or any other summer blockbuster, for that matter). rather, this is an actual story of people with complicated pasts and uncertain futures; it just happens to be set in outer space. this movie should become the touchstone for all movies, but especially sci-fi, wherein the focus is on how each particular person -- in keeping with his character -- reacts to the action and environment.

Incredible movie. Works best for fans of the 'Firefly' series, but the movie should be thoroughly enjoyable for almost any fan of sci-fi. The character development and writing is miles ahead of what George Lucas has done with the Star Wars series since 'The Empire Strikes Back'. Deserves a shot @ becoming a franchise...

Serenity employs an ingenious opening sequence to catch up viewers who are uninitiated in the Firefly 'verse, and then, in the words of River Tam, "I know. We're going for a ride." A thrilling ride. As in his other work, Joss Whedon uses an intricate mix of genres, high drama, action, mystery, humor, and character driven plot to draw the viewer into his world, and then keep the audience on the edge of their seats for the next two hours. Serenity is scifi for the thinking person, where the knuckle-whitening action is there to serve the development of its characters, and the laugh out loud moments let you catch your breath almost in time to gasp in shock. At the same time, the story works on the deeper level of analogy important to all great scifi, commenting on the human need for freedom, for family, for something to believe in, and the willingness of heros to sacrifice themselves for those ideals. Whedon weaves these threads throughout his story, and then trusts his audience to be able to enjoy the action and the deeper significance at the same time. Truly, a rare cinematic treat.
