Too early to tell, but its clear he has the brains for the job.

I don't buy into the "Presidential appointee" theory of Justices, in which they are invariably judged by the President who appointed them.

I didn't care much for Reagan, but Rehnquist was a solid jurist. Warren Harding is arguably the dumbest and worst President in history, but Taft was solid, smart and competent. Nixon verged on being a venal hoodlum, but Burger was straighforward, honest and modernized the court.

His early marks and reviews show excellence and superior intellect. He may be one of the great ones if he is able to have a lengthy career.

It is far too early to tell how Chief Justice John Glover Roberts, Jr. will turn out. If anything, however, Roberts possesses one of the most brilliant legal minds, and his addition to the United States Supreme Court ought to be considered a positive- if at least intellectually-speaking. A protege of his predecessor, the late William Hubbs Rehnquist, Roberts is as respected for his writing acumen as he is for his clarity of legal thought. And so far, as the Court leader, he is already respected by his brethren for his ability to manage the Courts public proceedings, as well as for his sense of humor.

Far too early to tell, but this is a guy to watch. With little concrete information available on his judicial record/philosophy, his decisions could go either way, making him a formidable force on the Court. Clearly has the intellectual capacity to serve on the Court. Time will tell as to both his performance and influence on the High Court.
