A somewhat offbeat movie, as one might expect from Cronenberg.

Violent, characters that are both compelling and repellent, and a clever and witty script.

It's Cronenberg! It's gory! There's horror/nudity! But "History" has an edge that you don't see in many movies. . .yes, it is violent- be warned. It was on it's way to being a great movie until the ending- which forces me to chop off a star. . .

A History of Violence was a good movie, but definitely not great. It was very slow moving, with extremely graphic scenes thrown in about 7 times throughout the movie. The actions scenes were great. The pace of those scenes was really a sharp contrast to the pace of the everyday world. The ending wasn't really satisfying. Overall I would tell people who have a dislike for graphic or gratuitous sex and violence to stay away from it. It also isn't a Hollywood thriller, with plots twists and humor either. I liked the movie, but wouldn't necessarily reccomend it to others.
