This hurts the people that are sober around them. Real drug addicts do not feel a lot of pain. That's why they started doing drugs usually. It killed pain and boredom. But their families get hurt a lot.... As my mom said "I can pretend to love you better when I have the drugs.." (so lend me money)... And also "If I don't get the drugs, the withdrawals could kill me and it would be your fault.." (so lend me money)... Then I said "Well it is obvious you picked drugs over your own kids, so see ya!" and didn't give her a cent!.. Who do you think felt that most?

I've seen what it can do to both family and friends. Neither ever admitted they had a problem and couldn't be forced to attend meetings or get help. I haven't talked to this family member, but he's probably sitting in jail by now and the friend; he committed suicide when he was only 17.

it destroys lives and families. you push away friends and you live a life of self destruction. most people have to hit rock bottom before they can see the damage and sometimes its too late.

I've learned that drug addiction is a very hard thing to go through as a family member. I can't speak on what it is like for an addict, but as a sibling of a drug user, it was extremely hard to build a relationship with that person. Also, no matter how well he is doing now, it will always be hard to completely trust him with his drug addiction in his past.
