It would be hurtful to have anyone who I thought I trusted betray me. It is especially hurtful when it is a relative.I have one in particular who did some very hurtful betrayals to me. bad mouthing me. telling lies. quoting me for things I never said. etc. and then act all innocent and make me out to be the monster. it makes it hard to want to be around a relative who betrays you.one you cannot trust.

It shouldn't be something that you've thickened your skin to, but it's happened so much in my family (mostly in the past), that I'm usually not the least bit shocked when it happens again. Originally, I always took it hard though, as I was in denial about how selfish these particular people were, I have since learned a few things.

I think betrayal of any kind by anybody is pretty awful. It can really make a person doubt themself, but it is important to remember that the betrayal was ultimately not in your control, and that it is better to move on.

The emotional effect would probably depend on the specific nature of the betrayal. "Betrayal" could have many different meanings. Might be something minor and temporary or it might be something much more serious with long-term implications.
