 | irishgit (151) 04/04/2007 | I've no doubt that this is not much fun, and can be the source of stress, emotional and otherwise, but there are far worse things on this list.

 | ILikePie (55) 04/04/2007 | Being on the rotund side myself, I can say from personal experience that being fat is no fun whatsoever. The endless snide comments, jokes and insults could be potentially very damaging to a more sensitive person. But I also accept that most of the other things on this list are a whole lot worse. I could lose weight, if I could be bothered to, but you can't bring back a dead child/spouse/sibling, etc...

 | Djahuti (57) 03/16/2006 | I can't believe this is at the top of the list! It's worse to be fat than to lose your parents,be seriously injured or have your child die?!!! I'm sure it's not emotionally a good thing, nor is it healthy-but you CAN lose weight. When really BAD things happen, there's no way out.

 | JonTheMan (29) 03/16/2006 | Depends on the severity. I've seen people who are "technically" obese who don't really look that bad at all. Certainly not bad enough to prevent them from leading a happy, healthy life. There are worse things in the world than a little chubbiness. Real obesity is when it actually becomes a serious disability, and I presume that would be pretty demoralizing.

 | Molfan (60) 03/15/2006 | although I could stand to lose 15 pounds { hey at my age I am never going to be a skinny 103 again} it can feel bad enough. I imagine it must be worse for those who are quite obese. not only can it be dangerous to their health the way they get treated is a crime. people can be so cruel to those who are very heavy and seem to think it is their job to let them know how "big" they are.or act disgusted or make their life hell. it sure could be emotionally hurtful.

 | HistoryFan (100) 10/27/2005 | Being obese myself (however, I weigh in between 100 and 250 lbs., take your guess LOL), it sucks to be fat, especially when people (especially of the opposite sex) make snide comments about one's girth.
However, I am blessed with a gym membership and I go to work out 4X a week for 30-45 min. and it has worked wonders. Total weight loss comes to 13 lbs. so far and counting. I'm learning how to eat right and control portions and all that shtick. For those of you who are obese, I encourage you to see a DR right away and find a weight loss program that's right for you.

 | zuchinibut (41) 10/05/2005 | According to the BMI(which is a load of crap) I am obese, and have been since I've been in high school. What isn't taken into account is muscle mass, and the health of the individual when using BMI to measure obesity. So in my case, although for research studies I would be considered obese, I have not been emotionally hurt. However, for people who do have a severe health problem or emotional issues because of their weight, I imagine that this is a pretty hard thing to deal with.
