I limit this group to a three because in order to be four or five star group in my eyes, you must address the many issues we face. The log cabin repulbicans are clearly a single issue group. That said - the issue is VERY important. I wish we (the GOP) did a much better job of upholding the values our nation was founded on. This includes the belief that all people are created equal - regardless of the lifestyle choices they make in thier personal lives. I also wish the GOP were more federalist - not just in lip service, but in action. There are states whose citizens would by and large be fine with gay marriage. We should let these states have marriage definitions that reflect this. So in alot of ways I am with the Log Cabin Republicans when it comes to gay marriage and gay rights. I have my disagreements though. First - the issues surrounding acceptance and tolerance of homosexuality are not issues that can be solved by governmental efforts. Their not. One cannot legislate moral values and one cannot use policy to decree acceptance. On this note, the gay rights advocates in this group, in my opinion, waste far too much time talking to politicians. They really can't change things - not at the level of the hearts and minds of individual americans. Log Cabin Republicans, like all other groups centered around a social issue, need to make thier case to the individuals that constitute the body politic of out country - the american people. This is a slower process and it is a more painful one. Having to conjure grass-roots support one individual at a time for a cause that leaders in your party are against is not something I think is easy. On the otherhand, this is the only way to get to the root of the issue and truely resolve it, since the issue is not simply that there are certain laws on certain books but rather that there are people that will write those laws because they do not accept and/or tolerate individuals that are homosexuals. On a more personal note - I not only accept and tolerate Log Cabin Republicans and homosexuals. I appreciate them. Thier's is an active practice of individualism that reminds the rest of us what a free society really is - a society in which one can be anything so long as it doesn't harm one's neighbor. If only more of us really put that freedom to be anything to use.

Though I might not agree with them on all issues I do respect them tremendously. The current Republican Party, whether one views it as a positive or negative, does not typically come off as being a gay-friendly party (anti-homosexual is a stretch don't you think?). But if they turn to the party that prides itself on tolerance, acceptance and intelligence they are left at the door for refusing to buy into the package. This group of people deserve at least some credit for refusing to treat their values as a cable subscription.
