Lieberman will keep his seat as an Independent. Not that is matters since he's likely (make that assuredly) going to caucus with the Democrats in the Senate.

The well-known independent, the guy with one of the most consistently liberal voting records in the Senate, looks like a lock to win. Imagine the stories of irony and incompetence were the republicans to screw up a campaign like this. You hardly hear anything about it. Lieberman appears to hold no grudge, however, and will continue to march in lockstep with the liberal wing, with the exception of one issue. He opposes a pullout from Iraq. If the US ushers in the anti-war zealots, Lieberman's voice will be lost in the cacophony of anti-Bush hatred inevitable if the dems take majority control in November.

The Democrats in this state must have been sleep-walking. Ned Lamont is way to liberal, and this is an anti-Bush person speaking. Sen. Joe Lieberman is perhaps the most respected U.S. Senator who doesn't value polls.

Schlesinger is polling at 4% in the middle of Aug. Lamont is less than 11% behind Liberman. Limpbaugh, Hannity, and most Republicans endorse Joe. I think Lamont's support grows as he is accepted as the real Democrat. In the end, very close Lamont win.

MoveOn is going to be pouring money into a primary challenge to Liberman, but I expect Lieberman will win nomination and general election pretty easily - unless there is truth to the rumors that Bush is going to make him Secretary of Defense.

Joe Lieberman, former Vice Presidential Candidate, is running for re-election in 2006. He was first elected in 1988 after defeating incumbent Lowell Weicker in a very competitive race. Since then, he has only had token opposition in his re-election races. This year, former Senator Weicker has expressed an interest in running against Lieberman as an independent. While I doubt that he'll make the race, it sure would be interesting to see this matchup. Some Democrats earlier this year were contemplating running against Lieberman, complaining that he was too conservative for the Democratic party. It didn't amount to much and if the challenge had come through, I doubt it would have damaged him much. Lieberman's centrist politics more or less match the tendencies of Connecticut voters, thus making him one of the most popular elected officials in the state.
