There is a myth about Ali that says that he depended on his amazing speed and agility for his success, and that he wasn't much of a puncher. In fact, while he was no toe to toe slugger like Liston or Dempsey or Tyson, Ali's hand speed and punching power was astonishing. Frazier, Foreman, and several others who were in a position to know, said that they were never hit harder by anyone else.

A perfect balance possible in skill, talent, dedication. That he dispensed his power in small doses at a time cannot challenge the cumulative effectiveness of those searing blows which earned him so many uncontested victories, so often. A phenomenon in a class by himself.
