He was a hard punching brawler who could bang like hell, whether he was the hardest pucher is debatable. What is not debatable is that Cobb's took a punch as well as, if not better than most. Definately one of the most colorful and orneryest heavyweight to ever fight for the title. He took a brutal beating from Larry Holmes and at the end of the fight with his eyes swollen, lips cut and bruised, blood and sweat dripping from his unrecognizable face said to Holmes "Let's Party!". He's made a decent living playing deranged psychotic villians in a number of movies. I get the feeling he isn't acting.

I know his record says he has all these ko's,but I mostly remember him for his guts-and a hard head;he fought a much harder puncher than himself-Earnie Shavers-and if I remember correctly Shavers broke his jaw and sort of gassed out on Cobb's hard head. Finally Howard Cosell flipped out at watching Larry Holmes use Cobb for a punching bag.

A big puncher for sure, but it's his stony toughness that impressed me. He fought Larry Holmes when Larry was at the top of his game. He took Holmes the full length and lost by decision. And yet, after that war, the first thing he says when the fights over? "Let's party!"

His head was probably harder than his punch, but this big brute could put a hurtin' on you if he got a hold of you. Too bad he had the footwork of a wounded elephant on tranqualizers, otherwise, he coulda went further than he did.
