Ferocious, tough, able to take a punch or thirty and could hit an opponent so hard he'd knock out his brother in Detroit.
His ring strategies sometimes left a little to be desired, notably against Duran and in his final fight against Leonard, but the force of his punches was never in question.

 | Randyman (103) 02/11/2006 | I'm giving Hagler a five because there is no doubt that he was a dynamite puncher, pound for pound, and definately one of my all time favorite fighters. My only problem with Hagler is that on more than one occassion he let his caution get the best of him. The three most notable are; his first fight with Vito Antoufermo, where going into the 15th round, believing he had the fight won, he let his caution get the best of him and lost the round, getting a draw, and thus failing in his first attempt at the middleweight title. He did this again when he fought Roberto Duran in 1983, showing so much respect foe the Panamanian legend, he almost lost the fight and the title, winning by one point, if I remember correctly. Lastly in his final fight, defending his title against Sugar Ray Leonard, He gave away several of the first rounds due to caution, and never really rallied to keep his title, losing it Leonard. Each one of these fights could have, and should have been won by knockout.
