Wynonie Harris (August 24, 1915 – June 14, 1969), born in Omaha, Nebraska, was an American blues shouter and rhythm and blues singer of upbeat songs featuring humorous, with often ribald lyrics. With fifteen Top 10 hits between 1946 and 1952, Harris is generally considered one of rock and roll's forerunners, influencing Elvis Presley among others.[citation needed] He was the subject of a 1994 biography by Tony Collins.

Enjoyable, but there are better and more influential Jump Blues Singers. Jimmy Rushing, Big Joe Turner, Jimmy Witherspoon.

Regardless of whether he's considered an "early influence" or a "main performer", Harris is a dumbfounding exclusion. Mandatory inductee in one form or another.

I don't listen to his records but http://www.digitaldreamdoor.com rates him the second most influential "roots of rock" artists

Wynonie Harris records what is probably the first real rock and roll record, "Good Rockin' Tonight," in 1948. http://www.digitaldreamdoor.com/pages/best_songs40s .html Harris is the most glaring omission in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame.
