To the CCKid,I'd guess votes in your review of this fellow in both "helpful and funny" came from G.Hun. I've missed assaults if leveled on you. They probably meant humor, as the Hun is dry enough to crackle. We are Lucky to have him as he delivers reasoned reviews with a well read opinion and great fact checks to support his position. I do follow him to learn of history I should remember and culture never known before. And, we are lucky to have your spontaneous humor. Who needs facts to screw up a funny? You say more than most with less than all and twist a giggle every time. Referring to anyone as "This asshole," is a risk most caculate....you lead with a jab and finish with a hook. You'll not be flamed because you stated "reasons." Calling G.Hun a "sphincter of retention and/or valve of waste elimination," might be accurate. Reducing the phrase to a euphemism with too many implications is wrong.

This asshole seems to be public enemy #1 as far as grizz is concerned. I hope to meet him some day. I will gum his arm until it bleeds.
Wiseguy 06/21/2009
Top contributor at the site with reams of interesting reviews to read. Genghis has left his mark at Rateitall, and made it better place to visit, for me, and I'm sure for many others.

I don't always agree with his viewpoints (we crossed swords once over what was behind prohibition in America in the 1920's; better that, I guess, than the relative merits of Van Halen vs. BonJovi or the different types of chewing tobacco) and sometimes his humor is a bit obscure to me (I was never quite clear about the dingo thing) and sometimes his giving the vital statistics of every politician in every county in every state is lost on me, but overall he's a bright, distinctive, and unique voice on RIA. Also, he has good taste in movies, and some great lists.
Automatt 05/25/2008
I enjoy reading reviews on all sorts of topics from Genghis.

ANOTHER UPDATE: I know, I gotta watch it though. I remember when I first came on the site, I was posting in this list and gave some listers a fiver. The late, unlamented PBeavr came on blasting me for currying favor, I guess. At my age, I really have ceased to care very much of other's opinions. I have also sought and won public office, so I know about adverse opinion. It is nice to know who is stabbing you however, because, it is a long road that has no turn. The motto should be: You should always forgive, but never forget! UPDATED: I never left a rating without leaving a review on the RIA. I do have a gap of about 50 more ratings than reviews, and I guess that comes from my reviews that have been struck by the author of the item that I rated.
DrEntropy 05/25/2008
Spreads himself a bit thin-I believe that Genghis has set an all-time record for both weblists and reviews-but his best reviews are good enough to make up for the bad ones. Genghis is especially good on movies and military history (his recent 1-page review of the Korean War provides a better overview of the war than any book or article I've read on the subject).
irishgit 04/14/2008
Pretty solid, for a crusty old fart. And I don't doubt he'll take that for the compliment it was intended to be, curmudgeon to curmudgeon.
lmorovan 03/31/2008
The "Abraham" of RIA deserves a better position in the ranks.
FranksWildYear s 03/07/2008
Who but the wise elder statesman of the community would feature The Ballad of the Green Berrets and Eve of Destruction in succession on his playlist? That is a balanced world view if I ever saw one. RIA is a better and dingo safer place for his contributions.
TeresaG 02/26/2008
As I've said, before it got deleted, I don't care what anyone says, I love Genghis. He is always polite and really knows what he is talking about!!
numbah16tdhaha 02/26/2008
I wouldn't be where I am today with the Illuminati without him...
MissPackRat4Je sus 02/26/2008
I find him to be a colorful reviewer with great knowledge and wit. He makes great lists, too.
LadyJesusFan77 7 02/26/2008
Reposting as somehow the review was lost last night.Anyway, I always enjoy Genghis the Hun's reviews.
Donovan 02/26/2008
Genghis is an excellent reviewer. Articulate and very intelligent; I appreciate his reviews.
fitman 02/22/2008
I believe Genghis and I have one thing in common: We both appreciate a good argument even when diametrically opposed to one another.
Humorbot 09/02/2007
He's always been nice to me, his reviews are pretty cool, I think he was the second person on my trusted network.
Loerke 08/13/2007
Sure, he has his favorite hobbyhorses, but that's a sign of how deeply he's thought about several key topics, and I'd always rather read Genghis than someone who spreads himself too thin. That said, the only thing I can predict from a Genghis review is that I will learn something from it. I certainly can't predict his political orientation, which seems deeper and more complex to me with each read. He's very generous with his ideas and suggestions. His writing is good, too, and I always look forward to reading more of it.
louiethe20th 08/01/2007
I have way too much to say about you Genghis, let me think on it a while, but here is your 5. I find it fascinating that quite a few of the people who left you 1 ratings with no comments, did the same for me! To say that Genghis is a major contributer to the site would be a massive understatement. If RIA was a 1000 page book, Genghis the hun would take up the first 150 pages.
ILikePie 07/17/2007
There's no way Genghis should be below that filthy 'Pie' fellow...
magellan 03/20/2007
It's time for me to update this old, out of date rating. GTH is a force of nature. Impervious to the RIA noise around him, he just keeps doing his thing. Always even keeled, GTH has the gift of being opinionated without getting nasty or emotional. I could certainly learn a thing or two from him.
Victor83 03/20/2007
Only the Pope could make Genghis back down. That was a very long time ago, outside the gates of Rome. Oops....wrong Hun.
RIAUSA 02/25/2007
Friendly and open minded.
Randyman 02/25/2007
At times reverent, other times intentionally frivolous, and almost always hilarious. Genghis brings his own unique perspective and has earned himself a spot with RIA's elite. I don't always agree with Genghis and have on rare occasion commented on some of his positions, but I have nothing but respect for him and his views. The man is an unbelievable wealth of knowledge.
Vudija 03/16/2006
He was on my trust, but has since been removed for several reasons (which I will mentioned here). His recent comments are almost entirely pointless, aside from the rare few. Take for instance: his responding to nearly 15+ posts with the term, Carroll County in them. I highly doubt he's been to all of them, and yet he seems to keep posting. It's nothing more than a copy/paste comment from a source like wikipedia. I'll admit that I have used sources, but mostly for statistics, populations etc. I haven't based an entire 50 comments on definitions or city commerce information. *I say 50, because I have done it for maybe 6 comments at some point, and will admit to doing so* The second reason being this: he keeps re-posting the same crap over and over again throughout the day (even into weeks or months). I have seen him get 3 unhelpfuls to 1 helpful, and re-submit it as if people are going to miraculously find him more helpful because it's now on the top of the recent comments list. It's the same nonsense over and over again, no changes, nothing. When people finally stopped rating him unhelpful on those topics, he left it alone, only to continue later, with different comments that had received the same results. He'll probably be starting on all of his "Carroll County" comments soon, as no one really found him helpful on those. The third, which is less of a factor, but still rather annoying at best; the fact that he probably gave us definitions to EVERYTHING on the euphemisms weblist, as if we didn't know what "tinkle, whiz" or any other cutesy term meant. How he managed to get helpfuls, based on information that we already knew, I may never know...
Ih8rateitall 03/13/2006
It's refreshing to see someone so polite and nice. Great guy and he has opinions on many different subjects.
HistoryFan 03/01/2006
Great guy but constantly insists that Genghis Khan had ADHD (which I know is a joke, btw).
EschewObfuscat ion 01/12/2006
Genghis is not just good, he's incredible. His knowledge on so many diverse subjects is nothing short of impressive. So many posts in such a short time. When Martha's views are included in his post, you know you're in for a little chuckle and/or a chin-stroking hmmm. His assessments of events and situations are always thoughtful and thorough, his list-making is second to none in depth and breadth. There's only one teeny, tiny area where he and I might have just the slightest difference of opinion but it just shows that us young snots still can learn a thing or two. He'll soon be among the very elite in quantities of helpfuls, postings and people who trust him, which will be appropriate as he is among the very elite in quality already.
Molfan 12/23/2005
I was glad to see him join RATEITALL an intelligent man who knows a lot .I find his posts on so many subjects interesting to read. I think I could learn a lot from him.
Djahuti 12/22/2005
Whether or not I agree with him,he always makes me think.Seems to have a broad base of knowledge about an amazing variety of subjects. Also posts some great lists.
bobble-head 12/06/2005
Good guy, and a good reviewer. Gives me lots of great suggestions for my weblists, too.
Sundiszno 12/05/2005
I can't believe I haven't rated GTH before this. He is prolific, articulate, knowledgeable, interesting, and enjoyable. An RIA reviewer could spend 24/7 trying to rate all of the stuff on his lists and never finish. I share most of his political philosophy, but when it comes to foods, I think he and I have a major parting of the ways!
oscargamblesfr o 11/29/2005
Thoughtful, prolific reviewer with a broad range- equally adept at discussing ideology, history, and popular culture, amongst other topics. He always has something to bring to the table. He seems to be quite conservative, but he is one of those reviewers who is not rigidly doctrinaire in his approach, and will sometimes surprise you. While I TEND to be quite oppositional to him as far as politics goes in many ways, I am always looking forward to his takes on things whenever we are commenting on the same thread. A good sense of humor, particularly at pointing out absurdity or irony, is another plus for him.
sfalconer 10/25/2005
Reminds me a lot of some one else on this site, but I can figure out who it might be, I wonder!
scarletfeather 10/22/2005
I enjoy his comments. I may not always agree with them, but I relish his wit and his encompassing knowledge on a variety of subjects. This guy also makes a lot of sense.
Redoedo 10/22/2005
A sharp reviewer with a solid range of knowledge on various issues and topics. I always enjoy reading his stuff, as most of his reviews are always presented in a well-thought, prolific fashion. Though we disagree politically on most issues, I enjoy reading his views on the issues, as he generally avoids the righteousness that some of his fellow conservatives often fall victim to and backs up his views with well-reasoned though. Overall, a strong contributer to the RIA community.
earthbound 10/11/2005
Extremely prolific reviewer. He has provided much interesting input in a very short time. I find him at his strongest rating items which pertain to US or international history. Also, in spite of myself, I find my curiosity piqued by his references to that bar that he frequents. He has definitely succeeded in communicating a persona for himself through his reviews. My only criticism is that he seems to take the 'RateItAll' site name as a personal challenge and rates almost anything, even if he has little to add to the discourse (e.g. 'Not on my radar screen'). Otherwise, I enjoy his well-written and well-researched reviews.
