 | Moose74 (6) 06/18/2008 | Arlo should definitely be in. He is one of those few who deserve it based on one song/piece of music. And what a piece of music! "Alice's Restaurant" is still topical. Why? because, bottom line, it is a great story and a funny one at that. Yes, it came out during an era and does offer commentary on said era, but it has a universality to it that is rare: The individual (or Everyman) up against bureaucratic madness who somehow triumphs in the end.
The live version of "The Motorcycle Song" is also a hoot. Another song worth mentining is "Coming into Los Angeles" which he performed at Woodstock.

 | mommycies (0) 07/11/2007 | Seriously,...who else in music history has had one of their songs played at the same time (12:00) on the same day of the year (Thanksgiving, year after year on radio stations all over the country? That, in and of itself is worthy of induction into the rock and roll hall of fame. Not to mention the fact that Arlo Guthire is an amazing singer and songwriter. With Arlo, what you see is what you get. He's one of the most honest musicians and performers of our time.I've been attending his concerts for over 25 years now, and whether he's playing solo with just a guitar, harmonica and keyboard, or with a band, or with full orchestration and four part harmony, I never cease to be immensely entertained!!

 | Ceashel (0) 06/24/2007 | Why he isn't already there is a mystery to me. It's not all about Alice's. His recent "Back by Popular Demand" (about peace), Rain Roach Affair (see iTunes), Live In Sydney album, many albums, in fact--Hobo's Lullaby, Last of the Brooklyn Cowboys, Mystic Journey--all through the years his music has been astounding. Is he left out because he owns his music and isn't in the "machine"? Check his music out at risingsonrecords.com.

 | kj3dots (0) 06/23/2007 | ....Arlo should already be in the R&R hall of fame....unless it truly is reserved for the rock and roll "elite" or for those who have been more focused on a star's life than a musician's... i don't think that's the intent of the Hall... he peaked in popularity at a very young age with a song that must be at times a burden....although he still can sing it..... he continues to write and perform remarkable songs... as well as keep alive the songs of his father and our country's history... selling to sold out audiences 10 months a year....in this country and many others....

 | Habs10 (1) 02/21/2006 | The son of folk music legend Woody Guithrie, and most famous for that.
"Alice's Restaurent" is a period piece that makes for a trippy Turkey Day treat, and an equally nostalgic LP.
"City of New Orleans" was a decent cut.
"Comin in to Los Angeleez" a cool Woodstock moment.
But no reason to include him amoung rock and roll elite.

 | ElvisC (0) 12/04/2005 | He's a 1, but Thanksgiving wouldn't be Thanksgiving without the playing of Alice's restaurant at 12:00 on WRDU in Raleigh.
