The all time great classic, next to or along with Rover, makes me nostagic for maybe old cartoons or something like that.

I like its meaning ("fidelity"), but I'm not a big fan of the name itself. It's actually not used too often.

Not really nice to label your pup with this corny name.

I never understood the popularity of this name. Maybe it was good back in the old days, but now, if you named your dog "Fido" you'd raise more than a couple eyebrows.

With the possible exception of "Spot", "Fido" is probably the most stereotypical name for a dog. The thing is though, I've never known anyone who has actually had a dog named Fido.

And, for the really upper-class sophisticates, the alternative, politically correct spelling is Phydeaux.

Awesome name. Not used nearly enough. Fido is a name a dog can wear like a badge of honor. Rex is right up there also.

Though not as common as it once was, I began to really like the name Fido once I connected the name to the word "fidelity". That's exactly the quality I like most about dogs, how incredibly loyal and devoted they can be to human companions.

I hope you all have met, by now, my trusty Black Lab, Fido. He generally shows more sense than Bush's advisors who launched him into the Iraq adventure.
