1890 Pittsburgh Alleghenys (23-113-2) 5

A disgraceful agglomeration, despite the presence of such notables as Peek-a-boo Veach, Ducky Hemp and Phenomenal Smith on the roster.

Given how the more recent Pittsburgh national league team has been doing of late, it begs the question of whether the Allegheny's have been reborn.

A team with a record like this HAS to be considered one of the 2 or 3 worst teams ever. In 1890, there were 3 major leagues, the N.L., the American Association, and a one year, player-run league called the Players League. By 1892, only the N.L. was still in operation. Needless to say, all three leagues were therefore watered down, and this ghastly club was obviously the most watered down of all.
