1906 Boston Pilgrims (49-105-1) 4

Probably the worst Red Sox club aside from the nightmarish teams of the 20's and 30's. A look at the roster reveals quite a few big names and veterans of their 03/04 championship teams on the club, like Cy Young, Jimmy Collins, Fred Parent, and Bill Dinneen, but practically of them all were over the hill or done . Jesse Tannehill, a good pitcher of that era, had a good year, one of the few who did. The team had finished over.500 the year before, and began improving in 1907 by collecting lots of young talent the following year, . This was just a year when creeping age caught up to the team's stars and the young/ new players were either too inexperienced or simply untalented: there wasn't a good mix between youth and experience on the team. I look at the team's record and the personnel when judging items on this list. A bad team to be sure, but not one of the very worst on the list.
