This team had two future Hall of Famers on it (Rabbit Maranville and Babe Ruth), and is arguably the worst team of the 20th Century. Ruth had been brought in to raise attendance, bringing him back to the city, if not the team he started his career in, and was made several insincere and dishonest promises about a future management career. The highlight of the year, for the team and for him, was his hitting three home runs against the Pirates in one game, the last of them, number 714 clearing the roof and being the only fair ball hit over the roof of old Forbes Field.

Featured Ruth at the very end of the line as a gimmick to increase attendance, and a very old (and also done) Rabbit Maranville, a shortstop who's in the Hall of Fame. The only player who had a good year for this awful team was Wally Berger, an underrated slugger of the era who hit 34 homers that year and had a solid career, and some of the statistics for both the team and the individual players during that year are frighteningly bad.
