An expansion team, so they had an excuse. In those days, expansion teams almost exclusively featured Triple A types, castoffs, old guys, reclamation projects, injury prone guys, has beens, and the like. Still, having names like Otto Velez, Doug Ault, Sam Ewing,Dave Lemancyzk, and the terrible Jesse Jefferson as everday players and starters hardly points to any hope for success, though the Blue Jays actually turned it around reasonably quickly, and were contenders by '83. A few guys on this team, like Jim Clancy, actually had some success later on, but for the most part, this was a horrid aggregation.
