There are a few plot holes, but this ambitious sleeper of a movie forces the viewer to confront a lot of uncomfortable topics, including conformity, mental illness, social alienation, teen violence, child abuse, family dysfunction, self-sacrifice, and plenty of existential questions about the worth of an individual life. Its significant sci-fi component combines time travel, alternate dimensions, synchronicity, angelic/demonic/extraterrestrial beings, and extrasensory perception in a sometimes confusing but always provocative mix that bears repeat watchings to piece together a movie that invites interpretation. Moreover, due to fine acting by the whole cast and Jake Gyllenhaal in particular, this movie has a big, mushy heart at its center and will remind you that love can turn any of us into an unlikely hero and truly does transcend the boundaries of time.

Frank the Bunny is my hero. I also like the scene when Donnie calls Patrick Swayze, or "The Swaz" as I now call him thanks to my favorite radio show, the "f***ing anti-christ."

Great movie with a great soundtrack. Very MTV, stylistically, but with some solid acting and a storyline that will hold your attention all the way until the unpredictable ending.

Very warped movie. The rant about the Smurfs was a classic!

I heard about this movie and finally got to see it on cable and I was an instant fan. The imagery and the writing are phenomenal and the Director's cut, yes I have it, makes it even better.

One of the true Great modern Cult Movies. Capturing a time that almost all of us can identify with on many different levels, Donnie Darko tells a strange tale that pulls you in with it's lack of direct inference on what is going on within the main characters mind and concentrates and instead shows the whole world that is going on around him, form the little things of the world of 80's school children, political issues of the parents as well as the moral changes of the era with teaching and positive think gurus. All in all this movies captures a time and tells a strange and intricate story that keeps the mind clicking over every time you watch it, for whatever reason catches you, this movie keeps you coming back to find out more or just to enjoy being immersed in the feel of the time it depicts.
