I was actually surprised by the conservative opposition to Harriet Miers. This made me wonder if the Republicans were more independent than I thought. The fact even members of her own party oppose her nomination is not an encouraging sign.

That a lot of her peers are not jumping forward to promote/support her is indicative that she is not inspiring many of them. It's hard for the rest of us to support her when only W seems to be doing so.
