This is something that is taught early to us so we can defend ourselves. Mainly from each other.

You never know when you may have to whip somebody's ass. I have formal Jarhead hand to hand training and feel better knowing these crazy physical methods of mayhem...

For self-defense purposes, most definitely...

Very good to know for defending oneself and loved ones. This is a skill you hope you won't have to use,but might be very necessary sometime.Don't forget though, most of the worst threats involve armed opponents.

I learned the hard way in the military, getting thumped by the best. The level of confidence it provides is surpassing. Number of fights since I've been out of the forces - zero!!

You need it. There are certain grappling skills most people should know to gain the advantage or survive a fight. Furthermore, having knowledge of hand-to-hand combat skills makes you a much stronger person. Knowing how to fight is better than not knowing. If you run into someone who wants to rape or kill you and knows how to fight, you won't have a chance. If you know what to do though, you will impress yourself. I once almost broke a friend's nose because they surprised me from behind. I gave him a backhand punch w/o even thinking. Imagine if it was a robber. Here's a free tip; if anyone ever tries to stick a knife or their arm around your neck, raise one hand immediately to your head like you're praying to block the move. Simple, but not something most people think about doing. You're going to need it. Even if you think you don't, you might be in a situation where you need to defend yourself; even giving the illusion that you are a tough target is enough to scare most people off. It doesn't hurt to actually BE a tough target too.

I have never had to defend myself from an assault, thank goodness. But if I were in a situation where my life was threatened, the adrenalin would start flowing and I would fight as fiercely as I could.

I used to be halfway decent at it (at least in training), but I was a lot youger then. Nowadays, I think if I even tried to engage in any kind of fisticuffs (yeah, I even use old-fashioned terminology!) I'd surely come off second best. I feel more comfortable with being able to fire a weapon.

Yes it is good to have some knowledge but this kind of aggression is not automatic in all even in men. You either are they type who will go into physical mode when being confronted or not. Ive known many men who literally just folded and took an undeserved whipping because of it. It was hard to watch and at some point I stepped in probably after it was too late. That kind of humiliation stays with a man for a long time. I never understood that. Call it cowardice or something else but no man should be like that. If you are that is even more reason to get some kind of training.

I certainly have no formal training here nor do I expect to aquire it. However, something tells me that if I hit a certain level of anger and fear, a kind of survival insanity would kick in and I wouldn't need training. I might die in the process but the other person would be in no shape to brag about it. I find that the best policy is to never put yourself in a position to need this skill. It's always worked for me.

Iseful for self-discipline but practically, most people just don't get into combat situations any more. Of course, if you are military it is more important.

Hope you don't need it, but it's useful to know if you do. Self-defense is a great skill to know.
