ESSENTIAL, CRITICAL, IMPORTANT if you are in the military or maybe in some parts of larger cities of the world. Other than that I would say, maybe a nice to know. I would go on to say though that some form of self-defense is a wise learn for anyone in todays world.

Although I officially qualified as a "Small Unit Combat Leader" (as well as a Heavy Weapons leader) eons ago, I haven't had much use for those skills in the civilian world (although, come to think of it, there are days when I am substituting that some of the training probably surfaces subliminally, if that makes any sense).

I've never studied this, but I have a hunch that the implications go way beyond warfare such as into business and social interactions...

Good to know if the situation arises, but hopefully most of us will not have that opportunity
