Same with basic car repair; could save you a lot of money if you could do the little things on your won at least.

Just enough for minor problems and to keep things together till the expert can get there.

I tend to leave this to the experts.

If we were able to do household repairs, we would save lots of money, and could use it for other means.

Why pay for a handyman to fix something when you can save time, money, and headaches by doing it yourself. Besides, I rather enjoy painting a room and bragging about it to my houseguests. :)

One I desperately wish I had. A long time ago I learned that unless I want to end up on the local news as the guy who was responsible for a power outage at a hospital, I better just stick to my phonebook and get a professional.

All but essential unless you want to spend a lot more money than you need or want to wait a long time with broken stuff. It also is a mini feeling of accomplishment. And if you work it right (like lots of grunts and groans behind a closed door when fixing that toilet) you will gain many of those valuable brownie points.
