Gov. Kathleen Sebellius is an oddity: she is a very popular Democrat is a very Republican state. Granted, she is very centrist, so much so that she has picked a Republican runningmate twice in a row. She benefits a lot from a long running split in the state GOP between cultural conservatives and moderate Republicans. Bitter primaries between the two factions have become common over the past few years, with the winner rarely going on to back the party in the general election. This lead to the election of some statewide candidates like Sebelius. The governor for her part has really exploited the split by integrating moderate Republicans into the Democratic party. By doing this, she has guaranteed her re-election. The Republicans are running a conservative candidate, but he should lose by about 10 percentage points, since he hasn't been able to unify his party behind him. When the Republican party in Kansas is unified, usually they win overwhelmingly. Bush crushed Kerry in this state by about 30 percentage points.
