 | FranksWildYears (48) 05/27/2008 | And while you're at it Mr. Able Bodied Environmentalist, use your natural physical arm power to open the door to the public building instead of drawing electricity to activate electric door opener that was installed for the guy in the wheelchair. Is opening your own door too much work?

 | trebon1038 (62) 05/12/2008 | Yes and no....I like to sleep with the tv on and usually leave the radio on for the dogs while gone so that they won't bark at every little noise.

 | irishgit (138) 05/12/2008 | Yes, but this is as much to minimize my power bill as to save the planet.
Based on their behaviour, however, my teenage sons appear to be major stockholders in a utility company.

 | LadyJesusFan777 (34) 03/26/2007 | Whenever I see a light on in the house that isn't being used, I always try to turn it off. Another energy saver that I've discovered are flourescent twisters. I find they're much brighter and more cost-efficient.

 | Silver Eagle 252 (8) 05/21/2006 | Back in the early sixties, there was a comic character called Ready Kilwatt who extolled the benefits of and availability of electricity. People got used to using and wasting electricity. Turning off the lights and other electrical devices makes and sense and just takes getting into the habit. You could install motion sensor light switches or timers if you just can't remember to turn things off.

 | Jaws (10) 12/07/2005 | Utilities cost money. That in and of itself should be enough of a reason to shut things off when you are not using them.

 | Sundiszno (30) 10/24/2005 | I try my best to turn off all unnecessary lights, or any appliance (TV, etc.) when I'm not using them. When I go on vacation for more than a few days I turn off the hot water heater too.

 | kattwoman (24) 10/24/2005 | i have a bad habit of leaving the lights on but i do try to be aware of it but i am not always successful.

 | Redoedo (39) 10/24/2005 | Pretty much common sense. There's no reason to leave lights and electronics on when you're not using them.

 | zuchinibut (36) 10/24/2005 | This is such a simple thing to do, but there are so many people who never flip the switch when they are leaving the room. I know I am guilty of this at times, but everybody should practice turning off the electricity when there is no need for it.

 | Djahuti (54) 10/24/2005 | It is mind boggeling how many people just leave any and everything on.Even if they can "afford" a high electric bill it is still ignorant, lazy and selfish. When you waste electricity, you are ultimately also wasting fossil fuel-that's what drives the turbines.

 | kamylienne (77) 10/23/2005 | I try. I'm pretty good about lights and TVs and stuff. But I leave on ceiling fans and stuff like that. And though I turn off the computer when I'm not using it, I leave the printer on (mostly because I forget).

 | Kairho (11) 10/23/2005 | All except the computer which is on 24/7. Never can tell when an email fix is needed!
But actually, the amount of power consumed is minimal as many of the modern units have several power saving features.
