Personally, I never do this, but I have heard where a lot of people will use leaves for mulch in their soil for their gardening. And I have actually heard that the effects are pretty good. Also good to leave a few on your lawn to help keep the moisture in. That way, when springtime comes along, the grass won't look so brown. Sounds like maybe I ought to give it a try.

I have a better idea. Don't mow your lawn.

Back when I had a lawn, I went a step further and just didn't mow the damn thing one entire summer. It was entertaining to watch some of my anal neighbors try to prevent their head from exploding.

I find it looks pretty when I see the leaves on the ground. Seems more natural to me. We leave them on the grass, where they belong. That's mother natures decision, not mine.

I don't have a lawn. I don't really like lawns either. Where's the listing for "don't have a yard"? :)

Sometimes I'll use the mower to mulch leaves and grass clippings, but I'm probably a little more likely to bag it up. My town collects yard waste separate from the trash pick up every Monday, so I take advantage of that.

To hell with raking leaves! Mulch them suckers up and let 'em rot. LOL

I only do this because I'm too damn lazy to rake it up.

I give this a "1" because I never do this . . . largely because I don't have a lawn. If I did, though, I would ( . . . yeah . . . It's not because I'm too lazy to rake, it's "environmentally friendly" . . . ) Well, seriously, I don't see the point in raking up leaves if it's better to leave it on the ground, anyhow.

We have been using a mulching lawnmower for years. If we had to rake or bag the clippings, i would be saying the "F" word alot. Our lawn is super sized compared to the neighboring lawns. Since ive been sick of other peoples leaf piles blowing leaves back in the yard, i have been mulching them with the lawn mower for the past few years. I usually rake them covering part of the lawn, then i mow over them, and use the lawnmower bag to pickup the debris.

Yes, I take pride in a "picture-perfect" lawn. Yes, I have the leaves removed regularly. Yes, they are removed with leaf blowers (last time I checked blowing leaves was part of their job description). I'll never understand the cynisim towards white picket fences and green lawns...

In colder climates, this actually acts as a healthy mulch.Much pollution (as well as wasted labor) comes from people obsessed with "picture perfect" lawns. From pesticide, fungicide, herbicides to gas/oil mixture burning leaf blowers. If you want to remove some debris, break out that rake, get some exercise, and your neighbors will appreciate NOT hearing all that noise and not smelling/breathing the noxious exhaust fumes.

We leave our clippings. I suppose in part for the environment. I would be lying if this were the only reason. We have better things to do than make our lawn look picture perfect, and spending all that time doing so. If helping the environment by leaving the clippings on the lawn, okay, I am for it.

Providing the lawn gets a good harrowing once or twice a year (my 15 acres does) this minimizes fertilization necessary.
