I try to take public transportation as much as possible. I use it to go to work Monday-Friday but find it difficult at other times as it takes a lot longer to get to where you need to go...plus I don't feel like lugging a bunch of groceries on the bus.

It does help with traffic on the road, but sometimes can be hard to do when you are crunched on time

That bus can only get you so far and it can't come straight to your house to pick you up when you want

People on the bus can be strange.

Not only to save energy, but also to save my sanity. The roads are full of idiots.

I do take a train occasionally but only because I like trains.

Convenience trumps environmental friendliness for me here. I could take public transportation to work, but it would require me taking 2 buses as well as a train over the course of an hour. I drive to and from work in about 20 minutes, so this is a large enough gap in time for me to avoid public transportation. The environment is important, but so is time.

I live in the boonies so it isn't an option but gave it four stars because if I lived in the city, I would use public transportation

Where and when possible, its a great idea. Unfortunately, as twansalem points out, delivery of public transportation can be a little spotty, even in big North American cities.

I've made big strides in this area. My progress has been helped substantially by not usually having access to a car.

The reliablility and practicality of public transportation really depends on where you live. In many places in Europe, it works great. In some large American cities, it is passable. But in a lot of American cities and towns with less than, I don't know, maybe 250,000 people, the public transportation systems just aren't good enough. Many cities just don't run enough routes, and others either start running too late in the morning, or stop too early at night.

The less gas they sell at these prices, the lower the prices will get.Besides,it will decrease global warming. We need to wean ourselves off of the fossil fuel habit. This is a good start.
