The Latex made now is in no way inferior to oil based.It also cleans up a lot easier,and smells way less noxious.

I paint on occasion, and when I do, I use oil paints. I know it's not the best for the environment. But, I at least try to dispose of the paint and solvent properly (ie. not down the sink).
