Ding Ding....food is done. Seriously....we all know a microwaved bun when we taste one. Almost EVERYTHING is microwaved. As far as fast food goes....Sonic has the worst tasting, worst quality of food....period!!!

I decided to try their namesake; the Sonic Burger. What I got for almost $4 was a very thin piece of burger meat surrounded by a large bun. Taste reminiscent of Wendy's. Definitely overpriced for what you get.

Southgate, Michigan. On our first visit, we ordered the 5 for $5 Sonic burgers, onion rings and cheesy tots.We ate all but 2 of the burgers. To say the meal was mediocre is an overstatement. The burgers tasted microwaved, the onion rings had a hint of cocoa to them (wierd) and the cheesy tots weren't bad.The kicker - We took the extra 2 burgers home and thought we'd eat them the next day for lunch. When we lifted the top bun off one, we found that the burger patty had a perfect size bite out of it already. We immediately took a photo and dug around for our receipt to call the store back. Unfortunately, we threw the receipt away with the wrappers when we left their parking lot. When we called the store, the manager listened to my husband and only offered to take his name and give him a free burger on his next visit. We took a digital photo of the patty, but without that receipt, we don't have a leg to stand on.Anyhow, my stomach turns just thinking of Sonic Burger! Avoid the Southgate, Michigan Sonic Burger!!!! The chicken strip dinner special is beyond bad. The chicken was dried up and bitter and not hot, toast soggy, fries soggy, one onion ring, gravy, soda. We had to wait 5 minutes at the curb for the dinners for some obscure reason. I can only assume it was to let the food get cold. Every corner was cut, leftover food from lunch, old oil in the fryer, very dirty cabinets inside. I used to work food service and fresh food was the first priority to build a customer base. It was 1:30 PM after lunch hour. I now know why their PARKING LOT WAS ALMOST EMPTY. My error was not returning the so called food they fed us and making them eat it. If this is a franchise then the Sonic people have NO oversight, or no concern after they get their fees, the Battlefield Blvd, Chesapeake, VA. store is destined for a CLOSED sign. I expect there is an absentee owner and poorly trained/lazy employees. Never again.

Sonic is too expensive. I placed my order and the guy sounded like he didn't know what I was talking about so I asked if they still sold sundaes! The order came out right but............I asked them to leave off the cherry but add extra whip cream. They charged me extra for the whip cream even thou I didn't get a cherry. Never again. IF I ever go back and order the same I will get cherry and pick it out and leave it for them since they are not going to give credit for it.

I've been to Sonic restaurants before and I was excited to have one come to my neighborhood. I finally had the chance to go and you could imagine my surprise when:1. I had to repeat my order for a grilled chicken sandwich FIVE TIMES. In addition to ordering the chicken sandwich, I ordered an unsweetened iced tea.2. When my order arrived, it was without the unsweetened iced tea. The young lady said, "Oh it's not on your oder, but I'll get you one, unsweetened, right?" Yes, I said. I began to eat my sandwich and halfway through, the young lady came back and said " Was is sweetened or unsweetened?" I told her to forget it.3. The person I with ordered a burger combo and a shake. We were there at 3:30 and according to the sign, drinks were half price during "Happy Hour". We were charged full price for the shake and never received the drink that came with the COMBO.As far as the food is concerned. My grilled chicken sandwich tasted fine. But, now, 5 hours later, I'm sitting here typing with incredible stomach pains.Needless to say the review for the Sonic in Bartonsville is less than stellar. What a disappointment.

Neosho MO Sonic Drive-In is the worst excuse for a restaurant. They are slow and when they are in accurate with your food orders the little girls will argue about it with you.

I was looking forward to try this place, we don't have many in california so when I saw there are plenty in vegas i went for it. HUGE dissapointment, the concept, commercials on tv are great but once you get you food evrything goes overboard. Extremely greasy, microwave look-alike food, worst fast food I ever tried!!!

We just had our first Sonic in the area I live in Michigan open about a month ago and I couldn't wait to try it. I had been to one in Tennessee a few years ago and was very pleased by the service. Our new one was so busy that it took me a month before actually could try it. I was very disappointed. The service was ok, the burger was a bit cold and not very flavorful and the tater tots were a disappointment. I went back a few days later for breakfast with pretty much the same results. I don't think their food is nearly as good as McDonald's, Wendy's or Burger King and their service was a far cry from the one I had visited in Tennessee.

We are from Michigan and were on business in Madison, WI and had never eaten at Sonic before but had seen all the very entertaining commercials. After reviewing the menu online we decided that you couldn't go wrong with choices like...burgers, coneys, fries, onion rings and tots. When we arrived the place looked rather busy which is always a good sign. We went to the drive up menu to place our order and were told that they were out of onion rings...which we thought was unusual. We placed our order...1 Chili/Cheese/Frito Wrap...YUMMY, 1 CROISonic BLT...YUMMY and 2 orders of Tots-1 with cheese-tots were good but if I every have them again will pass on the cheese. The worst part of our experience was the young lady at the drive thru window. We tried to make conversation, stating that we had never eaten at Sonic before and how was it possible that they were out of onion rings? The very rude response we received was..."Well we are super duper busy and we are just out of them right now" she proceeded to shove our food out the window without even asking if we wanted any condiments. I guess my suggestion to that young lady would be to.....lighten up and have a sense of humor !

That one in K-town did screw up orders all the time. That's probably why they went out of business. I wonder if the speakers did not work right, because you would always have to give your order like 3 times before it was repeated back correctly by the person taking it.

the sonic drive in i visited was on murfreesboro rd in lavergne,tn.by far from any other sonics i have visited this was by far the best most curtious sevice that i have ever recieved by any restaraunt i have ever went to this place really seems to know what customer service means.every smile that walked out that door had a purpose for each and every person visiting that restaraunt.this establishment is really run very well.

It sounds like most of these guys have had bad experiences. And that's alright. But you have to understand: Every Sonic is owned and run by a different manager. If your service sucked, it was because the manager didn't take the time to make sure his employees were the right people for the job, or that anyone who wasn't up to par was replaced. A Sonic under a responsible manager should run smoothly, and although everyone makes mistakes from time to time, most small errors should be corrected in a timely manner. A car hop should be polite and engaging, not silent and rude. 'Hi, my name is ___. Welcome to Sonic. Did you order ____?'. That's what a good car hop should say. I'm sorry for all of you that had bad experiences, but depending on where you are and how hastily your local Sonic was built and hiring, the manager and his underlings may not have been doing their jobs to the best of their abilities.I didn't know paper was made partially from cotton, and I'm a Junior taking honors classes in a 'Performing' high school. And as for the food, I like it. I can't get enough Extra-Long cheese coneys, and the Tater Tots are tasty. The drinks are good, and you can mix and match, which is always fun. Any of you that got crappy service were just at the wrong Sonic. And if it's the only one in the vicinity, just go to another fast food restaurant. For those of you who waited in line at a Grand Opening of sorts, the cooks were probably busy and trying to focus on ten things at once. If the carhops were a little less than peppy, they were probably tired from several hours of literally running back and forth to get orders to customers as quickly as possible, so cut them some slack. So, bottom line: every Sonic is different, be patient in a rush, and if you didn't like the experience, go somewhere else. :)
mandikins 07/07/2009
Sometimes the gimmick does make the difference, and a drive-in fast food place where you don't even have to get out of your car for mayo has its priorities straight. There are places where the servers actually come out on roller skates, and that makes up for a squashed tater-tot any day. But overall, the food actually IS pretty good with many unique menu options and absolutely unbeatable prices.
oucougarfan 06/23/2009
It all depends on the one that you go to, and if you like or dislike fast food. People on here keep saying "Oh, It's so terrible I hate it because the manager sucks." That is at the Sonic THEY ate at. All Sonics have individual owners. I work at Sonic in Coffeyville, Kansas and we always have the customer first. When someones order is messed up, if they report in in a REASONABLE fashion, we ALWAYS remake it, AND give them a handful of coupons. Some people just don't like fast food. Don't talk about how it sucks if you have never had a taste for greasey food. It really doesn't help when you have people who don't like to cooperate with the carhop either. More then likely, we didn't take you order or make the food. DON'T TAKE IT OUT ON US IF YOUR FOOD IS WRONG!! Simply tell us how it is wrong, and what you wanted and it will be remade!!

I sent hubby to get me a super sonic cheesburger in mt home ark.Came home w/ a cold egg sandwich w/ burnt bacon.I called about an hr later to complain about the order mix up & was told that they were aware of the mix up and was told that my sandwich was still sitting under the hot lights if i still wanted to come get it ....LOL
middlesboroky 05/26/2009
As worked at a sonic in KY the best food the place has is the combinations you can make , order a sonic burger but ask for it on a wrap like a grilled chicken wrap but everything u enjoy on a burger. It is odd but very good , or ask for a grilled chicken sandwich or burger on the new croissant bun or whole wheat bun. just ask for creative new ideas at the place and they should be able to make it. Popcorn chicken with cheese is good or a corn dog with cheese.but the basic food on the menu is average at best unless u do something odd to it its just not worth the price in my eyes.
kat15lee 05/18/2009
I was never awed by this place, maybe because it was over hyped. Their frito pies are okay, just okay, not the orgasmic-inducing nirvana people have described to me. I like their tater tots, burgers (with the sourdough bread) and their drinks. Everything else is just meh. Their breakfast burritoes are yucky, way too many onions and chunks of jalapenos. Overall, it's not my favorite way to get a heart attack. Don't believe the hype.
mightymitedogg ear 05/18/2009
Very "dog friendly" - you can eat in your car or sit under their covered - outdoor picnic area with your best friend. As someone who has to drive all over the country with her dogs and is often forced to find drive -throughs, Sonic's good food coupled with dog friendly atmosphere is a welcome alternative to lower end fast food. I am a fan!
badgerfan1 04/26/2009
The best fast food chain I've been at, although I have only had their burgers, so I can't rate a perfect 5 stars. I mean you can't rate something great if you haven't had much. Now they have the first one in Wisconsin I can't wait to get to and they're suppose to open more in the Milwaukee area.
genfluke 04/12/2009
This place is just awful. I've been to several Sonic's over the years since they opened a few of them here in Birmingham, AL. I've never once enjoyed my meal. You may ask, why did I keep going back? Because people i've ridden with or family loves the place. I don't know why. They're bland at best. They sell generic burgers for twice what they should cost. Case in point, a "kids" hamburger (not cheeseburger mind you) costs 2.99. Really? 2.99? Three dollars for a sorry, greasy bland burger that doesn't even have cheese? They also sell a grilled cheese sandwhich for 2.99. Its not as if its even a "Resteraunt quality" grilled cheese, its two pieces of white bread, the kind you buy in the store, with a piece of store quality cheese thrown on it and heated. I went there tonight because i recieved a $5 gift card to sonic from my mother in law. I figured what the hell. I ordered a "chicken finger sandwhich", which was messily thrown together and slathered in the nastiest, most bitter mayonaise i've ever tasted. Taking it from the wrapper covered my hands in this crap. Save your money, go to any of the other dozen or so superior fast food places (Rally's, checkers, krystal, mcdonalds, jacks, burger king) and get edible food for a reasonable price. Didn't help that it took them 15 minutes (timed it) to bring this sorry excuse for food out to me. The only thing Sonic is remotely good for is slushies, and again, save yourself some money and headaches and just go through a 7-11. Anyone that likes the food at this place and willingly spends upwards of 15 dollars for what would cost 4 bucks at mcdonalds, has a serious, serious character flaw. Also, i've heard you're supposed to tip Sonic car hops. Yeah right!

Wow! This is te place to go if your are feeling like a high calorie night!
Spike65 03/27/2009
One just opened up in my town. Lots of buzz about how good the food is. Wife and I ordered a burger basket type meal and enjoyed it. The one drawback is it was a bit on the greasy side. So if you don't mind slippery food give it a try. Add one star to my rating if high calorie foods are not a problem for you. The food was tasty and the service was very good.
Astromike 03/23/2009
They have a wide variety to their menu. Decent burgers, but are well known for their flavored drinks, and shakes.
Anna9014 03/17/2009
So!nic is falsly advertiseing the Happy Hour 2:00 to 4:00 1/2 price drinks! I went to Sonic in Huntsville, Arkansas to day with my daughter and ordered her a stawberry malt at 2:30 only to be charged full price. They had a large sign about their Happy Hour and below it, it list their drinks like sodas, slushys, floats, malts, shakes, limeaids, ect. When I talked to the manager about it he told me that it only applyed to some drinks not all. This is false advertisement and illegal. Sonic is lieing to to people and cheating them! (BEWARE!!!)
jrriney 03/16/2009
Not a fan. Everything is extremely greasey and tastes bland. The few things that I did used to like, hasn't tasted so well the past few times. The drinks are still nice, and the ice cream is okay. But if your just going for a regular cone or a dipped cone McDonalds soft serve is better.
shylak 03/05/2009
The Sonic in El Dorado Springs, Mo is really good. They usually only take 15 minutes to get you your order no matter how busy they are. If you order a drink without ice they still fill it really close to the top. The food is always hot and the car hops are so nice.
myrandasgreen 02/18/2009
Fun experience, the only thing great is that you can get tator tots : )

The commercial where the kid takes His mom out for a budget burger should be changed. The kid says Mom You think money grows on trees? Then He says it does because it's made out of paper. Well it's not. Money is made out of COTTON!!!!!!!! The commercial makes Sonic sound uneducated. Any 5th grader knows what money is made out of.

Sonic has an extensive menu and the whole drive-in thing is cool.

I just returned from sonic. I ordered a chicken club. When I got home it was breaded instead of being grilled. The strawberry shake was considerably worse that many others availableat other food places. I was full but much less than satisfied. Will not go back again.

I tried the blasts tonight and did not expect anything wonderful but it wasn't even good. I ordered a Peanut Butter Cup Blast, and paid big bucks for it, and got a cup of vanilla ice cream with a small sprinkle of PB cup topping on top. Very disappointing.

bragging about new value menu, everything is jr. or small sized, how about making their regular prices more affordable instead? little pricely on normal prices.

If you go to the Sonic in Draper Utah don't expect good service from a female manager with brown hair. I have never had such poor service in my life! My brother loves the ice there so I stop by frequently to buy a bag of ice... though each time they fill the bag less and less. Tonight I went to get two bags for the holidays and asked for it to be filled to the blue line... when they brought it out it was no where near the line so I asked for it to be filled to the blue line again. Instead of filling it to the blue line, the manager came out and told me it was and then dropped it when i reached for it and it fell to the ground. Then instead of apologizing she went in and filled another bag with even less ice. Thanks for the excellent service!

I work at Sonic, and I'm not trying to toot my own horn, but I have yet to go off on a customer. But generally, this is what you do. Please stop telling us we're stupid because of the price. We have no control. Please stop getting mad and driving off on your order because you're limited to three coupons an order. Please stop asking about our Tacos, we stopped making them. More than six months ago. Please stop replying "BOTH" When I ask if you want Mayonnaise, mustard, or Ketchup. IT'S THREE THINGS. Please don't hate us because we won't let you in the bathroom after dark, it's not our fault people kept using it as a drug depository. If you see the place busy, and your order seems to be taking a while, we are generally working our hardest to get it out. You calling in and telling us about horrible service helps a lot too. Please stop throwing your food and trash on the stall ground. Even if we made a mistake, just simply ask for a refund, or a remake, and we'll make it for you again. For all you who said we are douches who don't apologize, then you're going to the wrong restaurant. HUGE NOTE! I APOLOGIZE TO EVERYONE. I KNOW ASKING YOU EVERY TIME IF YOU WANT AN ORDER OF CHEESE STICKS IS ANNOYING, BUT WE HAVE TO. Please stop telling us your order is to go. You are in your car, you dictate when you leave. There is no priority list we put you on. Be patient. Don't yell at the carhop if the food has not been made to satisfaction. Nine times out of ten, we have nothing to do with making the food. Remember, we're also customers too, so we understand waiting sucks. But we also have to deal with adults who act like four year olds when their Cherry Limeade just doesn't have the right amount of Cherry to Sprite ratio. This really happens. I don't care if you tip, I don't care if you say thank you, please just be understanding.
BlackRose 11/24/2008
They just opened one in Springield, OR. I went their on opening day and wasnt completly thrilled. The onion rings are to sweet for my taste, the burger was just ok, nothing to get excited about and the cherry-limeade was not drinkable, I did get the low-cal limeade so maybe the normal one would be better. I will give it one more shot but overall I was not to impressed

Do not EVER eat at Sonic! I loved thier food and it was the onlyy fast food place I would really go to until yesterday. I had nearly finished my burger, and it was really gritty like there was a lot of gristle in it. I was really disappointed then I looked down and saw a MAGGOT in the meat. It was cooked into the meat so God know if it was shipped that way or if they just let it sit out too long. It was the middle of the lunch rush when food is usually fresh. I am pregnant and was just floored that they had served rancid meat. The manager offered a free meal and NO apology. He didn't even act like he was surprised at all. So I called a lawyer, and it all could have been avoided with a promise to check expiration dates or at least an 'I'm so sorry.' Ridiculous!

Well i have been to one place and it's okay. But everytime I go they always mess up the order everytime . All they do is give free food out. they are pricey which kinda sucks because there service is no good. i dont go there anymore because of the mix up of orders. Can you really be that stupid!!!!!!Kingsburg ca

Rude employees, even RUDER manager, food TOTALLY screwed up. Will never go back. I was at the Asheville, NC Sonic on Patton Ave...Manager Antonio Thomas BANNED me bc I brought back food that was cold and prepared 100% wrong. Told me I wasted the food...no ya'll screwed up my order! I paid over $15 for my food, I at LEAST want it warm people!!! I was told also if I didn't like the way my food was made, to just go somewhere else (Assistant Manager in training Chris said that one...)I will NEVER go back again and I will tell all I know not go to there either. To think...I could gone 2 minutes down the road and gotten the same food for cheaper. Live and learn!!
