 | GenghisTheHun (168) 05/13/2008 | I sometimes do this, but one of us is usually home. I think it wastes more energy to heat up everything after you get back.

 | zuchinibut (36) 05/12/2008 | Wasting energy not only effects the earth, but my wallet as well. I try to be very conscious of conserving how much I use the thermostat.

 | twansalem (36) 05/12/2008 | This is a pretty easy thing to do, but I do it more to save money that to help the environment.

 | irishgit (138) 05/12/2008 | I live in a temperate climate, and the thing is normally "off" not "eased" from March to November.
Even during the winter months, I tend to keep my dwelling on the cool side because I prefer it that way.

 | Silver Eagle 252 (8) 05/21/2006 | This is another one of those common sense ideas. It's even easier if you have a programmable thermostat or zone heating/cooling.

 | Djahuti (54) 10/30/2005 | Why waste fuel and money when you're not home? For that matter, there's no need to make it feel like summertime inside all winter. We keep our thermostat between 60 and 70 when we're home.I'm fine with wearing warmer clothes & piling on an extra blanket at night. You can save even more (and still be toasty)if you have a pot-belly stove or the like.

 | Cindyo (10) 10/28/2005 | We always set it way down when we're going out of town, it's worth it because it saves money and energy. There's little point in heating or cooling a house (to a comfortable temperature) if no one is there to enjoy it.

 | AndrewScott (71) 10/27/2005 | I'm plenty thankful that the previous owner of my home was thoughtful enough to install a programmable thermostat. During workday hours, electricity is automatically conserved -- a nice gift for every energy bill.
Even if had the more traditional thermostat knob, I'm the type to spend a couple seconds making light tweaks here and there for the sake of a lighter monthly bill (especially for weekends out of town). Heating and cooling a large area is very energy intensive, and this is an easy way to pay less on monthly utilities.
