This is huge I don't recall the numbers but it has been a long time since the White Sox won a World Series.

It was a great world series for being a sweep. Every game was entertaining and kept me on the edge of my seat ( that might be due to that I'm a Astros fan).

The sweep of the series must be the top sports story of 2005. The Chisox are the blue collar team and therefore ignored. The media are opposed to the American working man since he is "unprogressive." That is one of the reasons for the yawning gap in coverage of this great Chisox team.

The winner of the World Series is always a big deal, especially with a story like the White Sox. For some reason the White Sox aren't as trendy as the Red Sox, but there story of winning the World Series after such a long drought is inspiring to a city with such a baseball tradition.

A big story in terms of the long drought of the Pale Hose (1917 was their last) and the Karma of the Red Sox winning it a year earlier (1918). However, this will Karma mean nothing to the Cubs who will never get into a World Series let alone win one [They are that bereft of fortune and their organization prevents them from winning because there is little financial gain for the Cubs to even win as well (see my post on the Arizona Cardinals)]. I only rated it 3 stars because it was one of the least interesting World Series I ever watched. Series Sweeps are bad for baseball and we have had 2 in a row. I think FOX is destroying the entire enterprise with their 9:40 PM starts and the way every inning break drags on and on. When will the Commish realize you can't make the 7th inning stretch into an ordeal for the viewer with the fat Irish tenor singing a mournful God Bless America for 12 minutes and then break into 10 minutes of commercials. Stupidest World Series comment goes to Mike Greenberg of ESPN Radio with his insightful gem, "The White Sox play just like the Yankees."

Real big for the White Sox and their fans but I'd say the rest of America would rate it a 2. Here's the thing. The White Sox are an overlooked baseball team in a not incredibly large baseball market. Chicago loves Wrigley and loves the Cubs. Had it been the Cubs who won the series a bigger deal may have been made. Picture the Clippers winning the NBA Championship - most wouldn't care. What upset me about this particular series is that Houston was in all 4 of those games and they couldn't even pull one of them out. It could have easily been 4-0 for Houston. What really soured me about the playoffs this year is that bad officiating turned the tide in both series in favor of the White Sox. A blatantly bad call against the Angels and a couple major missed calls in the Houston series - again, not close series on paper but realistically if those calls went the other way the momentum in either series could have shifted, and that's a shame. It's a shame for the Angels, the Astros, and the White Sox - because a talented team that has waited so long for a championship now has second-guessers like me wondering if they deserved it.
