I'm a huge sports fan, but considering news stories on a grand scale, I can't rate any sports story as significant compared to other relevant news events.

I know I'm gonna get a lotta flack from sports fans about this, but honestly, this ranks pretty low with respect to how "significant" it is in the long run, when comparing it to the hurricane(s) and earthquake (which probably most people have forgotten, since it didn't happen here). I'm sure it was a big moment for the White Sox, but it's hardly that significant in comparison.

Okay, I'm a Wisconsin native, and here it's an unwritten rule that you have to despise any Chicago teams. So I was a bit disappointed when the Sox won it all. I'm a sore loser, yeah, but I don't think this was really a significant event for the year.

And about damn time too. I don't care much, one way or the other, about the Pale Hose, but if my boys in Boston weren't going to repeat, I'm glad it was these guys. 88 years is more than long enough to wait.

Pretty big as far as sports stories go. The White Sox were dominant in the playoffs, and it was a big deal because they had been waiting just as long as the Red Sox to get their championship.

I'm happy for White Sox fans. Not the fair-weather ones, the band-wagon jumpers. The long-time ones who are perennially derided by the snooty Cub fans, so arrogant in their predetermined annual failure. This isn't a big deal anywhere but the Windy City. But the White Sox faithful deserve to bask in the sun as World Champs. They've waited long enough.
