A great player, according to those who saw him play.  Regarded by some observers as the equal of Gehrig, but barred from proving it because of the color of his skin.

Like all the great Negro Leaguers, he is difficult to rate accurately, but its pretty clear this guys in the argument for top 10 all-time at the position.

HOF player, a Negro Leagues great who was called by some "The Black Gehrig." While there's no accurate way to assess how great he truly was, well, if you're even compared to Gehrig, if you're even mentioned in the same breath, it seems pretty evident that the guy was at the least quite talented, and in the context of his own time and league, a superstar who no doubt would have been at least a good player in an integrated league, had that existed at the time.
