My mom wears NASCAR merchandise and she's far from white trash (in fact, she's planning on selling her car in the next year and hoping to upgrade it to an SUV). Both my parents are NASCAR fans and they 1.) own their own home, 2.) had paid OFF their mortgage payments, 3.) and make a decent living with retirement in 15 years or so.

Years ago maybe. But now, not so much. I have a friend who lives in a nice apartment on the upper east side in Manhattan, makes six-figures in a management position and who loves NASCAR. He wears the hats, shirts and even has the numbered sticker of his favorite driver on the back of his SUV.

NASCAR is one of those sports that cross class boundaries. Takes money to get a ticket to a race, and no money to root for your favorite driver on TV. And who in their right mind doesn't like the thought of going 200 miles an hour just 3 inches away from a concrete retaining wall with 50,000 or more fans screaming for their favorite driver at the top of their lungs as you see the checkered flag flying from the finish line? I do love the smell of octane in the morning.

Can't rate it as low-class since I personally know a couple of millionaires who are huge NASCAR fans.

Not ghetto, but toes the line. . .no matter how much their fans protest otherwise, NASCAR will forever be the subject of ridicule in higher-class financial and social circles. . .it's watching left turns for 3 hours and the best drivers are in Europe racing Formula One. . .NASCAR is a trash league. . .

Wearing the merchandise, yes....being a fan, no. My brother-in-law is a pharmacist and he and my sister are huge NASCAR fans. I would rather watch pipes rust.

You might as well stamp working class hero on your forehead if you wear this stuff.

I like to watch a race as much as anyone, but when all you wear is some dirty Dale Jr. hat, I want to cue the banjos.
