I spent the prime of my life in this place as a teacher of Economics in Government Secondary School, Kaura Namoda, Sokoto State, Nigeria, 1976-1980. My experience provided the objectivity and richness of my multicultural connections that changed me (for the better, just as it did change the life of Doctorade, Adrian CUSO volunteer). Kaura Namoda has become part of my roots. Based on my memories, I wrote " My Africa, A Sojourner's Memoir", a creative semi non-fction published by Aurhorhouse, USA in December 2007. There is no better way to understand, assimilate, and provide mutual respect for other people than to work and live with them, far reaching than just reading about them.

I also worked at GSS Kaura Namoda I was a member of CUSO in 1980-82 the experience changed my life (for the better). I taught english to form 1 and health science to the form 4 and 5 boys. I became involved with a tribe of BUZU people that lived across town in a Zungo (buzu village)I loved them and have been back to visit 5 times since I finished my tour with CUSO. I plan to return again within 2 years

I was the Head of English and Economics at GSS Kaura Namoda between 1975 and 1977 whilst serving with VSO. The town was very welcoming, divided into the old and new parts, with a wonderful Friday market that attracted villagers and visitors from miles around. Places of interest in the town were local dye pits, pyramids of sacked ground nuts and a large freshwater lake.

It was the nearest, largish, town to where we lived (Zurmi) my wife worked in the Health Centre there. We were regular vistors at the market. Warm friendly people.
