"Effin-A, Cotton. Effin-A!"

I don't really know too much about Jason Bateman other than he came out in a television show in the 1980's called Valerie, which I never really watched, and that he is in the currently released movie "Juno". However I did meet him years ago during the mid eighties when he was filming a movie about a block from my home in Uptown Whittier. Uptown Whittier is a historically designated area of Whittier and is filled with many older restored homes. They were using one of those homes for a scene. We walked over to the site which was filled with large trailers and people milling about, we were watching them shoot some scenes when a woman with headphones and clipboard approached us. She said they needed a television set with certain plug ins, that a piece of equipment broke down. I had exactly what they needed, went back to the house got it, let them use it and Bateman was able to finish the scene. The lady gave me forty bucks for troubles. I didn't ask for it. My kids, knowing who he was wanted me to ask if he would take a picture with them and give them an autograph. I didn't think he would mind considering the circumstances. I walked up to him and asked him "Jason, would you mind taking a quick picture with my kids and giving then an autograph?" He answered without so much as a glance my way and said "No". Then he jumped into his convertable and drove away. I can't, for the life of me remember the name of that movie. As I watched him last night in "Juno" I couldn't help but notice how easily he played a flake.
