 | Drummond (54) 02/27/2006 | He did project a moral authority, although he started his political career by turning in old friends in the Actors Guild to the House UnAmerican Activities Committee. His people stole Jimmy Carter's debate briefing book to obtain advantage, but that and the fact that there were scandals enveloping over a hundred of his cabinet and staff never seemed to affect the "teflon presidency." People were burned out on Watergate and started to blame the messenger - the media, for even bringing it all up. Admittedly, Clinton benefitted from the same kind of fatigue.

 | numbah16tdhaha (147) 02/27/2006 | Oh lord, quiver in fear. Say it ain't so, Ronny! Did we give stingers to Afghanistan? Yup. Did we bomb a few people? Yup. Did we do alot of filthy, underhanded dealings? Yup. Did the Wall come down? Yup. Did I like Crazy Ronny better than any other president my 27 year old ass can recall? Yup.

 | GenghisTheHun (168) 02/27/2006 | Gore08 Toyota Lexus makes the statement: "Regans (sic) morals where so strong that he gave tax breaks to people making over $1 million a year."
I am sorry to report that I was earning a living at that time, I was not making over a million a year, and I got a tax cut that I sorely needed. The maximum tax rate at that time was 70% if you can believe that.

 | CanadaSucks (45) 02/16/2006 | His 'moral authority' led him to enjoy the company of dictators like Marcos and Noreiga while professing to know what was 'right' for me. . .this was the financial democrat who left us with the a debt increase from 900 million to three trillion. . .while the violin-players are busy telling their children how Ronnie-saved-us-from the Commies, you'll pardon me from telling my kids that Reagan's 'moral authority' smelled as bad as the diaper he wore before he died. . .

 | EschewObfuscation (61) 06/01/2005 | This list isn't about the guy's personal morals, it's about his moral authority as a sitting president. The only president I can remember who wielded his moral authority better than Reagan, while in office, was Ike. But he was much more passive. Read Reagan's Tear Down This Wall speech and, love him or hate him, point out a speech with greater moral impact. To the enemy, to the people in shackles behind the wall (praying for freedom one day), to onlookers around the world. I liken it to Churchill's Finest Hour speech for moral authority. The fact that the wall crumbled within a few years makes the speech relevant, as with Churchill's, after the Allies were victorious. Reagan shamed Congress into his domestic, economic plan by taking it to the American people. Once it worked, he owned the moral authority and he didn't hesitate to use it to get his policies passed or to bully Gorbachev. Jimmy Carter and Harry Truman showed stronger personal morals, I suppose. But, for utilizing the incredible power of the US Presidency for all it's worth, give me Reagan anyday.

 | Jar-Jar Binks (16) 02/04/2005 | He did tons of drugs as an actor; he cheated on Nancy when he was governor; he alienated ALL his 4 children when he was president; he never went to church before, during and after his presidency. What's so moral about this guy?
