Paul Muni as patriot in conflict with French oppression in mid-1800s Mexico. Great 1939 roles for Brian Aherne, as Emperor Maximilian and Bette Davis as wife Carlotta, with yet another grand portrayal by Claude Rains, as Napoleon III. Directed by William Dieterle.
