I was fascinated for the first episode or so, as I used to be an ardent Black Sabbath fan (and still have a very fond place in my heart for them), but indifference and boredom very quickly set in, as well as a certain contempt. You have to give Sharon Osbourne some degree of credit; a savvy businesswoman, she helped to revive and revitalize what was essentially a moribund career, and helped save Ozzy from what assuredly would have been an early alcohol-induced death. Still...and I'm by no means a prude...I began to cringe as every other word that came out of Sharon's mouth or the mouths of her teenage kids was effin this and effin that and effin the other effin thing, and...who in hell talks this way (as a teenager, I muttered "eff you" to my father once under my breath and just barely avoided the heavy dog food bowl he chucked full-speed at my head)? I realize a lot of it was probably put on for the cameras, but it became excruciatingly tedious after only a very short while. If your idea of rock'n'roll subversion and rebellion is to curse like a truck driver around your kids and your severely drug-damaged husband (or for them, in turn, to curse like truck drivers around you), maybe it is time to cash in your show business chips and retire to that luxurious estate in the English countryside.
