The DH gets a lot of heat from analysts and announcers because it strays from tradition, a major taboo in baseball. Is it really that entertaining to see a pitcher get up there and flail about four or five times a game? Rare is the clutch hit or even the opportunity for a meaningful sacrifice. Those are the exceptions, not the rule. Good hitters, on the other hand, make the game more entertaining and lengthen the careers of players who would otherwise be out of MLB. Is the game not better off having allowed Paul Molitor, Edgar Martinez, Chili Davis and Harold Baines to play longer?

What the DH does is make pitchers more "special" than the fielders. Pitchers should not be looked at as anymore important than the other players. Get rid of the DH.

Pitchers should focus on their task at hand. No other position is as demanding. And as for the fans, my guess is they would prefer to see a monster get up there and hit home runs than to see a pitcher's feeble attempt at swinging a bat.

The DH is a bad idea in the same way that Arena Football is a mediocre sport. It emphasizes scoring at the expense of strategy.

The DH rule is fine. I like the contrast between the NL and AL that the DH creates. Without this rule and the introduction of interleague play, then there would be no difference between the two leagues.

The current situation, where there is a DH in the American League, and not in the National, is, to my mind ideal. It provides something for both sides of the debate, and makes interleague play and the World Series just a soupcon more interesting.
