not every family has the choice of staying home with their children. it gets more expensive each year just to survive. a lot of families have no choice but for both to work. It would be nice if one parent could just not always an option. I had to work for a years for my first child. I hated it and did not like leaving her in daycare. after my second child was born we did everything to find a way. I stayed home with both for all their growing years. It was hard we went without in a lot of ways but i do not regret it.

I know many public school teachers in the elementary grades, and they can't wait to retire. The reason? So many of the kids coming to school are unruly monsters. Why, you may ask, oh, noble members of the RIA? Warehousing in day care say the teachers almost unanimously.

We must get wages or the social network up to a reasonable point so at least one parent can stay home with the kids.

Well,it's a double edged sword.Since we have become a society in which families can't survive without at least two paychecks,I guess it has become a necessity. However, there's a terrible risk leaving your child in the care of adults who may or may not be "OK".Maybe if we weren't wasting our money on bombs and taxbreaks for the ultra-wealthy our government could afford to subsidize better, safer day care for our children.Or maybe if our working class made a decent wage they could afford to work something out where one parent might be home when the children need them.(Of course, the current "majority" just voted AGAINST raising the minimum wage, while they not so long ago gave themselves one)!

I wonder if it ever occurs to people that putting a child in day care or some other form of daily care (babysitter, grandparent, whatever) isn't always an option for the parent. There are actually couples who need two pay checks to make it. Further, there are parents who lose a spouse while the children are still young (either through divorce or death). My father died when my sister and I were very young and my mother had to work or, in her case, continue to work. Sure, the IDEAL is supposed to be for mom to be home baking cookies yada yada whatever. But, the reality is that this is not always possible - and that is NOT always due to someone who puts career above family - sometimes this is the WAY you put family before career. And yes, we survived just fine thank you very much. Not only that, we learned another life lesson early on because of it - whether we're talkin stay at home or working mom - June Cleaver does not exist.

this makes our children's caretakers more responsible in the quality of how your child is taken care of and more cautious to who they hire.

While day care has its place, it is better for children to be home with a caring loving adult who has time to focus on them and who belongs to just them. Whether people like it or not there is a big different between teaching someone because you love them and teaching someone because you get paid and usually poorly to.

Good idea . . . if only more people could afford it.
