08/13/2004 | I love Loretta Lynn because she is who she is and makes no excuses for it. Her music is smart and gutsy--it doesn't suffer from compromise. I remember that kooky Canadian Alanis Morrisette once saying something along the lines that she felt compelled to make such personal music because she didn't feel a strong female voice was out there singing songs that came directly from a woman's point of view. I guess she never heard of Loretta Lynn. That whole riot grrl movement ain't nothing compared to the honky tonk girl.
