Hard to think of this as a "fashion" statement. More like an essential when playing most sports. I guess if you wore it on the outside........

HUH? UPDATE: One worn in public would indeed be rather scary...

Fashion statement?? In public?? Boy, that really would be fashion statement wouldn't it?

In public?! That's not an image I needed.

Like the coach always said: "If you can't be an athlete, then be an athletic supporter." Not many people wear these as fashion, except the odd funk/new wave performer, like the guy in Cameo.

Numbah, you call that a jockstrap? UPDATE: Oops, sorry. Looking at your new user page picture had me confused. FURTHER UPDATE: Playing football in HS was memorable at times. We had one guy, pretty good player, always playing practical jokes. After one practice, one of the guy's Moms made apple pizza, for a team party after the game. "Mike" came out, obviously anxious for the pizza, with a towel around him, ostensibly to make sure we all didn't eat his share. Well, boys will be boys, and a few guys start grabbing at his towel. As he's taking a bite of his pizza, someone whips the towel off, but his privacy is protected by one of these. It was pretty high drama at the time, but then we realized he had planned the whole thing.

During college parties I attended, somebody was bound to be found wearing one of these on thier heads. More of a statement about that person rather than about fashion.
